Final reflection on my 3rd annual 30 book TBR

After a pretty severe reading slump spanning most of spring throughout the entire summer, I truly can’t believe we’re here, having read 27 (!!!) of my 30 book TBR for 2023. At the end of September, I had only read 13 so to have read an additional 14 of these picks in 3 months was quite the feat if I do say so myself. I attempted Silver Nitrate and Babel via audio but DNF’d them both, and I never got around to even requesting Reptile Memoirs.
Having read 27 of 30 books, my percentage completed was 90%, a decline from 2022 in which I read 100% of the books on my TBR, but up from my first 30 book TBR in 2021 where I read 25/30 books or 83.33% of the selections. Of the 27 books I read, 6 were five stars, 11 were four stars, 9 were three stars, and 1 was 2 stars. Let’s dive into my 6, five star reads of this TBR. Disclaimer, 3 of the 6 I rated 4.5 stars and rounded up to 5 stars, it’s fine.
5 Star Reads of the 2023 TBR

Unsurprisingly, half of these books fall within the mystery/thriller genre with the remaining titles hailing from fiction and romance. Of the 6 authors highlighted, 2 were new to me (Bonnie Garmus and Nikki Erlick) while the other 4 are tried and true favorites.
Books I was surprised I didn’t love were Our Missing Hearts of Celeste Ng, A Quiet Life by Ethan Joella, and Zero Days by Ruth Ware, mostly because I’ve read other books by these authors and absolutely loved them.
That’s a wrap on the 2023 TBR – I can’t wait to share my line up for 2024!
Until next time, Meryn
